O Banhado dos Pachecos

Photographic exposition of the bicycling stroll through the Shelter of Wild Life Pachecos Marsh in Viamão-RS

Sunday, after a good chimarrão, I prepared my "monark circular bar" bicycle for a matinal stroll. My intent was to go until the Shelter of Wild Life Marsh of the Pachecos.

The shelter has an area of 2,400 ha approximately, that it was yielded by the INCRA to the SEMA (State Secretariat of the Environment) in 2002. It is one of the most important area for the preservation of birds of the Rio Grande Do Sul state.

The Marsh of the Pachecos is part of a set of marshs that makes Gravataí river: Chico Lomã Marsh (Santo Antônio da patrulha city); Pachecos March (Viamão city); Great Marsh (Gravataí and Glorinha cities). All them together are demominated Great Marsh.

A fight to turn real the Ambiental Area Shelttering (APA) of the Great Marsh exists today, it was was created in 1998 for the state decree number 38.971

A Exposição

The Exposition

While I was taking the last chimarrão sit in the the side of the fire, the bicycle was leaned in a tree as a horse waiting its owner.

I began the stroll from the immediacy of the "Águas Claras" district of Viamão city taking the RS 40 road in direction to the toll square. A little before the square I took a land road, and entered in the Agricultural Lands Lay "Filhos de Sepé".

Passei por um canal de irrigação. A água tinha uma tonalidade escura. Era enegrecida mas não opaca.

I passed for an irrigation channel. The water had a dark tonality. She was blackish but not cloudy.

Entrei numa estrada vicinal.

I entered in a secondary road.

It had rained in the previous day, I had to cross some puddles of muddy water. But this was not difficult, crossed the puddles without dirting myself, thanks to the mudguards of monark bicycle

Aparentemente estava abandonada.

I found a pumping station in the side of the road. Apparently it was abandoned.

Fiquei curioso e entrei lá dentro. Havia alguns maquinários meio enferrujados.

I was curious and I entered there. It had some half rusted machines.

Near there was the south part of the Incobrasa lagoon. The Incobrasa lagoon is the flower of the Pachecos marsh. I arrived at its edge, far away i saw enormous groups of birds.

I continued, cycling for a road at the edge of the lagoon.

A lagoa é parcialmente artificial. O solo do local é bastante escuro.

The lagoon is partially artificial. It gives to see the rock-iron that composes the dam constructed for the Incobrasa. The water is blackish but transparent. The ground of the place is very dark.

Continuei o pedal pela margem.

I continued cycling by the edge.

Arriving in the north part of the lagoon, had a plate forbidding hunting and fishing. It had a meet of roads. The main way arrived until there, in the face north of the dam, for a parallel way what I had followed. I turned to the right and continued.

As ondas chegavam a formar espuma.

In the north face of the dam, the water were more agitated. Small waves were formed that pressured "marrequinhas" (aquatic plants) against the rocks. The waves formed foam.

I stopped to observe in the left side of the dam a small lagoon. It was formed for the outflow of the waters that came from the great lagoon.

The water came through iron pipes to discharge there in that backwater.

Segui na direção leste. No lado direito ficava a lagoa, no lado esquerdo o banhado.

I followed in the direction east. In the right side there was the lagoon, in the left side the marsh one.

In the east tip of the lagoon there were a small beach of sand and ground. Many aquatic plants. From there i could see the rocks and the linearity of the dam. The dam had about two kilometers of extension in the north side.

Me afastei da lagoa.

I moved myself away from the lagoon. I entered in a land road that passed on the inside of another Agricultural Land Lay. I found cattle and carts of ox in that road.

Avistei mais algumas pequenas lagoas.

I saw more some small lagoons.

Havia algumas subidas leves. Fui subindo lentamente.

There were some light ascents. I was going up slowly.

Up there i could see the Pachecos marsh.

A estrada continuou, passava por dentro do Assentamento Rural Novo Horizonte.

The road continued, it passed inside the "Novo Horizonte" Agricultural Land Lay.

It finished in the locality of "Morro Grande", district of Viamão city. There I took the RS 40 road and went home for lunch. It was almost mid day. The total distance cycled was so so thirty kilometers.

Pedalando em Porto Alegre

CYCLING IN PORTO ALEGRE

The sunday pedal was short. Thirteen kilometers of Porto Alegre, in the streets, avenues, sidewalks and squares.
After some stopped time, that the cold and the real or imaginary problems congeal the soul, I went to see the city on two wheels.
The good is that thus, cycling, people go fast almost as if were driving a car, and goes where it wants almost as if it were walking.

I have a friend buying a mountain bike in the Rodociclo shop. It does not know which bicycle to choose, if GTS or Volare. I use a Volare boxxer bicycle to go job sometimes, to train, and to cycle in the city. I consider my Volare easy to maneuver, and that it gives a good peripheral vision. Comfortable, lowered, small, and relatively cheap, I approved and I recommended to the friends for short metropolitans trips. Therefore I loaned the Volare to the friend, waiting that this helps it in the choice of the bicycle.

We got the streets in the end of the afternoon and were slowly in direction to the "Redemption Park", the Parque Farroupilha. I calibrated the four tires in a gas station of the Santana Avenue, where I confirmed that the back exchange of official mine bike, under seat of which I cycle by these lands, was damaged.
- it does not make badly we go thus.

We arrived at the park, in the immediacy of the "Monument to the Expeditionary". A portion of seated young people in the banks and same in the grams, many taking thermal botthels and thermal bottles of "chimarrão".
It was difficult of cycling in the way of the multitude. We enter in the weeds, we went up and we went down concrete slopes, we took a specie of track, seemed that we were far of the city: the green, falling leaves in the soil, trunks of trees, roots, ground, holes.

We came back to asphalt we got the way of the parks, the cycle-band, in the stretch that follows in the against-hand for the the Republic street. Which way! extinguished cycle-band, taken way of automachine vehicles.
- Let´s go for the sidewalk.

We crossed the Perimetral Avenue, I found a cousin who has much time did not see.
- We cannot leave the body to cool.

Then soon we followed for the "Borges de Medeiros Avenue", under the "Otávio Rocha" viaduct. We entered in the "Rua da Praia street", the Andradas, full of peddlers and people, difficult of cycling.
We followed ahead, passing for the "House of Culture Mário Quintana", for the "Church Our Mrs. of Pains", and for the quarters, until the "Gasômetro". We arrived in the hour of the "sunset in the Guaiba river". The things had acquired an orange tonality. Hundreds of people were there.
- It is turning cold. Let´s take a "quentão".

But before I found the Edgardo and the Helton, some of my old mountain biker´s friend. The Edgardo is organizing the fifth stroll of the group bike-rs.
-It goes to be bullet! Will be in the "São José dos Ausentes".
If God wants, I am going in this stroll.
Helton was in a peculiar bicycle, proper for cyclotours, an enormous baggage compartment, a rare bicycle here.

We went ahead, almost night, the "quentão" was left for the next time. We changed bikes - I took the Volare. We entered in the "Marinha do Brasil Park", in the track of speed for bikes. We got a track in the gram, until the place where the guys make their shows riding BMX.
From there until "Praia de Belas Mall", was fast. It became gloomy, we turned on the blink and light in the bicycles.
We went until the Azenha Avenue through the Gen. Caldwell Avenue. The soccer play of Gremio soccer club against the Vasco had finished. So we cycled in the side of hundreds of sad people walking in silence.
-Let´s go run away from this multitude.

We entered in the Oscar Pereira Avenue.
-Don´t be afraid, we will not go up the hill of the cemetary!

Before the ascent we entered in a calm and dark street.
At home we drank liquor made with honey, "guaco" and watercress.
Both bicycles approved by my partner.

Santa Cruz do Sul-Encruzilhada do Sul-Tapes-Porto Alegre

(in english after the portuguese)

Tiramos as rodas dianteiras e embalamos as bicicletas.

Tomei uns mates, e entrei no quarto.

Apesar do estilo barroco, o conjunto é surrealista.

Começou a ventar.

O Alberto estava me esperando lá.

-Vamos sair bem cedo!

Pegamos a tão temida estrada. O vento estava a favor, a paisagem atraente.

-Sejam bem vindos!

SANTA CRUZ DO SUL-ENCRUZILHADA DO SUL-TAPES-PORTO ALEGRE

In the holiday of “Tiradentes” we cycled about 390 kilometers in the inner of the Rio Grande do Sul state, passing by Santa Cruz, Rio Pardo, Pantano Grande, Encruzilhada do Sul, Dom Feliciano, Chuvisca, Camaquã and Tapes cities.
It had past two month since I was planning this trip, that would be made in three stages.
The first stage would be shorter, with transport of bicycle in bus; the second considered difficult for the long extension of roads of ground; the third considered of average difficulty, for the long distance in asphalt.
In the previous day to the beginning of the trip I had alerted the inspector of the bus company Santa Cruz Union about the transport of the bicycles.
-I have two tickets for Santa Cruz. Two passengers, and two bicycles without the wheels, and packed.
- Ok. But don’t arrive late.

Thursday night, I and my partner Alberto met in the Road Station of Porto Alegre. We take off the front wheels and we pack the bicycles. The same fiscal was there. He was very nice; he asked if we did not prefer to take the direct bus that would leave soon later. As the bicycles were already embarked, we decided to go in that bus anyway. It were 20:00 hs when the bus took the route to the Santa Cruz do Sul city.
The plain were to spend the night in Santa Cruz city and to leave in the following morning to Encruzilhada do Sul city by the RST 471 road. We would make a more or less long stop in Rio Pardo city, to know the touristic points. Rio Pardo is one of the four older cities of the Rio Grande do Sul.
In the way Alberto considered to go bicycling to Rio Pardo city as soon as arrived in Santa Cruz.
- The night is pleasant for a nocturnal pedal.
- It is ok.

We arrived in the road station of Santa Cruz at 23:00 hs, we spoke to the driver of the bus.
- Is it easy to find hotel in Rio Pardo, in the dawn?
- Today does not have more buses for there.
- We do not intend to go by bus, we go in bicycles.

We mounted the bicycles, feed ourselves in a gas station and became our nocturnal trip. The moon was declining, and delayed to appear. When it appeared, great, yellowish, soon was covered by clouds. We cycled almost all the time in a dense blackout, the landscape was only the distant lights. We had good lights; we were in guiding for the illuminated white band of asphalt. We got a good speed for the distance of 33 kilometers between Santa Cruz and Rio Pardo cities. The ascents and descendings more were felt in the legs and the breath than observed with the eyes.

We arrive in Rio Pardo at 01:00 hs of the dawn. It had a hotel in the entrance of the city: the Minuano hotel. We decided stay there. I drank some
chimarrão, and entered in the room. I oppened the window and I perceived that it had started to rain. Rain even persisted until morning. After the coffee the Alberto was giving up the trip yet.
- With rain I stay here.
But rain was weakening, the sky was being clean. I took the bicycle and gave a turn for the city to visit the touristic points.

I knew the “street of the slope”, the old military school, and what more it impressed me, the Church Our Mrs. of the Rosary.
The inner of the Church Our Mrs. of the Rosary, is similar to the Church Our Mrs. of the Conceição, in Viamão-RS, being that other seems to be a little more conserved.
It has some altars, sacred paintings in the ceiling, everything made in the old Portuguese baroque style. Although the baroque style, the set is surrealistic.
I had not desire to leave that church.
It were about 11:00 hs when we left Rio Pardo city and went to Encruzilhada do Sul.

We stoped in Pantano Grande for lunch. Even thought it is very small city, it has some hotels. We followed the trip for the RST 471. It started to blow. A wind against us. The road had many soft ascents, in one of them I stopped to observe an enormous brown centipede with yellow lists that was crossing slowly the RST road.I collected it of the soil and I threw it in the weeds to cars don´t kill it.

I stopped in the only bar that I found to the side of the road. A very little and simple bar in the field. There where a boy in a horse with his father around. The father were the owner of the bar. I asked for a coke and I replenished with water. In this point the Alberto had disappeared in the front.

More ahead I passed for vineyards and factories of wine. A region with beautiful landscapes. Encruzilhada do Sul city is known by the production of wines. The Valduga House, one of the most traditional vinícolas of the Brazil is present in that city. I went until the porch of Encruzilhada biking and observing the landscape, with calm and against the wind. The Alberto was waiting me there.
It was afternoon end when we entered in the city. We asked for information to inhabitants, about hotels and distances.
- There are some hotel here?
- Have several hotels, for incredible that it seems.
- Which is the shortest way for Camaquã city?
- There are two ways, and the two are neither short nor easy. Until Camaquã are 100 kilometers by the RS 350, much goes up and goes down, the road is very bad, much stones. In the end it has a stretch of asphalt.

Alberto turned a little scared. He started to think that we would not arrive so easily in Camaquã.
-We will need awake early in the morning tomorrow! If not we can arrive late in in the night in Camaquã city, and so the other day can be dificult to go ahead.

We left the bicycles and bags in the Walter hotel, and were to walk around the city.
We seated in the bank of the central square, it was cold. There were some weels of chimarão” there. The majority people were young, men and women.
We entered in a pizzaria, had many kinds of pizzas. We drunk wine from the
Valduga House.

We came back toward the hotel by 21:00 hs. It was two squares distant from the pizzaria. We went sleep. The room was very small, the beds almost leaned one in the other. I awoke some times in the night to take water, I slept more than the planned. So we only were right to go away around 8:00 hs, after the coffe.
The morning of saturday was very pleasant. We took the so feared road. The wind was helping us, the landscape were attractive. It was full of ascents and descents, with many curves, but they were not comparable with the ascents and descents of the most mountain range of RS state. Thus, in the beginning it was very encouraging.

There were no unhabited houses in the edges of the road. I was carrying water enought, because i knowed that the region had low demographic density.
Cycling for that long half-desert-like road was rewarding. It had something of surreal. We biked many miles only sighting little hills, rocks, green weeds, some old large houses abandoning and the flaring, full of curves road ahead, disappearing of sight. It had very little movement of vehicles. In determined point, when my friend disappeared in the front there were only I and the bicycle in that magic world. It was if I was making a trip for the surface of another planet, or on the proper earth, milions of years ago.

At the middle of the day we arrived in Dom Feliciano city, with 65 km cycled. In the entrance of the city I stopped in one small bar and I asked to one gentleman who had the red eyes and was half swaying, where we could lunch.
-There is the
CTG

Was happening a round-up in the CTG. There were fat barbecue of cattle and sheep, vegetables, rice, manioc, and so on… The cowboys all dressed typically making bow shot. We entered in that boil wearing our pressed shorts of bikers. The master of the CTG came to speak with us.
-You are wellcome!

We took photos in the the field, together with the cattle, and lunched attending the roundup.
A cowboy asked us where we were coming from and where we were going to.
-You are going to take...2 h 20 min until Camaquã city. But… as you are carrying bags, i gess you are going to take... 4 hs.

Cycling , more a stretch in that road of ground, where the inclination of the ascents increased a little, we entered triumphant in Chuvisca city. There we found a mountain biker coming from Camaquã city and going to Dom Feliciano. Camaquã was near. From the neighborhoods of Chuvisca city we was going to take asphalt.

We arrived at 16:00 hs in Camaquã city. As it was early still, we decided to follow the trip until Sentinela do Sul city, 35 km ahead. The wind was helping us, we cycled in high speed in the BR 116 railroad until the of the entrance of Tapes city. In a restaurant there they had said us that there were no hotels in Sentinela city.
-Only in Tapes city.

It was becoming gloomy, we were in doubth if we was going to cycle 17 kilometers until tapes and return this distance in the next day or if we would follow the trip at night until Barra do Ribeiro city. We were tired, so we opted for Tapes city.
We placed the lights in our bicycles, and went to Tapes cycling in high speed in the night. Alberto found that our average velocity was more than 30km/h in that stretch. When we entered in the urban zone Albert cried behind me.
-Slow ride! Take it easy! If not we are going to cross the city and to enter lagoon inside!

We were directlly to look for a hotel in the center of Tapes city, we take a walk in the square, where the people there had a different profile of the ones of Encruzilhada do Sul city. They were most young guys in bycicles, had few women. We sa many bycicles, some tandem bicicles. Nobody was drinking chimarrão. We went to sleep soon. In that day we cycled 165 km, 82 km of that were made in road of ground.

In the following morning, we awoke late. We took coffe, and took some photos in the edge of lake before we leave and go to Porto Alegre city. We stopped for lunch in the middle of the way. My friend was going to left me in the Pintada island. We took some photos in up in the arc the bridge of the Pintada island before he goes away. I entered in Porto Alegre city by the Castello Branco Avenue. The traffic of vehicles was intense. In the Park of the Redemption, the “Farroupilha” park, I attended a presentation of the army. When it was 16:00 hs i was at home bringing a lot of images in my eyes, right to make other adventure on the seat of my bicycle.

Giro pela Serra Gaúcha II

(in english after the portuguese)

Som de fundo: The Maker - Rick Wakeman

O Guilherme me passou o Vinicius. Perguntei-lhe se já tinha pedalado longas distâncias.
-Já fui até Itapuã!
-Tens todas as ferramentas?
-Sim.

-Subi tudo no pedal!

-Vim empurrando a bike...Que subidão hein?

Eu estava começando a me preocupar com a demora do Vinicius. Finalmente ele apareceu pedalando devagar, sorrindo.

-A gente costa!

-Eu não me importo!

O Vinícius voltou a pedalar no plano.

Seguimos reto, o asfalto acabou.
Aquela estrada seguia quase paralela à RS 115.

Recebi umaligação do Vinicius:
-E agora? Eu subo ou desço?
-Onde tu estás?
-Sei lá! Saí da estrada de terra há pouco.
-Então tu sobes! Falta pouco! Estou no posto Ipiranga.
-Sobe?! Ptz!

Gramado mudou.
De alguma forma, minha visão de Gramado mudou.

TURN FOR THE GAUCHO MOUNTAIN RANGE II

I wanted to go by bicycle until Gramado city for different ways. I wanted to go this month, because the advantage of the hot climate; moreover, the Party of the Colony was happening for there. I invited knowed ones, good ones mountain bikers.
- We go for Santa Maria do Herval city, we come back for Presidente Lucena city… Guilherme accepted, and said that he was going to take three or four partners.
I thought:
- Well. I want to go by TRENSURB, the train, until São Leopoldo city; if go more people, the staff of the train can complicate. The group has a good size yet.

But in the last day Guilherme and company had given up the trip, due to a damage in a bicycle. I like to cycle alone, specially in the mountain ranges. This takes me to a surreal introspection. Whenever I cycled alone in wild places I brought from there something incorporeal that i can´t define yet. Therefore, with the desistance of the others, I decided to make the pedal alone.
But in the last hour Guilherme telephoned saying that one of his partners still wanted to make the trip, in order to go together with me. At that moment they were the two, I do not know where, preparing the bicycle for the trip. Guilherme passed me the Vinicius. I asked him if he had biked long distances yet.
- I biked until Itapuã once.
- You have all the tools?
- Yes.
- Mountain range is mountain range!
- It does not have problem!
- So let´s go!

After all Vinicius was being indicated nothing more, nothing less, by Guilherme, one of the giants that had concluded Audax 600 km in the last year!

Seven and half o’clock in the morning of saturday I met with the Vinicius in the gas station BR Touring, in the João Pessoa Avenue. He was a guy with high stature, athletical body, looking like have thirty and few years old. His bicycle was simple, of iron, without mark. It was not heavy, and it appeared resistant.
-Let´s go!

We took the TRENSURB near the bus station without problems. We only had to remove the front wheels. From the São Leopoldo city we followed for BR 116 railroad.

-What nice! What trip!
My fellow told when arriving in Novo Hamburgo city.
-We are just starting!. It will be betther later, when we go out from the railroad.

At the beginning of the ascent of 116 BR railroad, my friend was turning backwards. I waited him in the entrance for Ivoti city.
-I biked until here without go out from bicycle!
-Theare are much mountain range ahead!
We became to cycle again, he desappeared behind me. I arrived in Morro Reuter city and seated in a bank of a square where there were a monument dedicateded to the readers. Mount Reuter is the capital of the reading ones.
One hour later arrived my partner:
- I had to push bike… What hill! Uhhh?
- There are much mountain range ahead.

It was almost one hour of the afternoon yet, so we decide to lunch in Morro Reuter city. We had a lunch in the “Cave“ restaurant.

There was a plate indicating the entrance for Santa Maria do Herval city: 14 km. It started to rain, we took a road, an ascent, a smooth land road; the back tire of the bicycle skatered.
I went skatering ahead.
- We meet in front of the church in Santa Maria!

Soon asphalt came back.. The VRS 373 road was a very calm road, passes for wild places. Even thought it was raining, everything was beautiful around. I went ahead, stopping sometimes to take photos, sheltered of the rain underneath of the trees.

In Santa Maria do Herval there were a beautifull stream cutting the city, there were ancient houses. It were a small city, well organized and clean
My partner didn´t arrive. I analyzed the situation. I thought about staying in some hotel there. I looked for some hotel, but there were no hotel in that city. It only had a positive way to follow: to go ahead and bike until Gramado. But my friend did not arrive. And his mobile was mute. I weared dry clothes and rain jacket and waited more a little.
I was starting to worry me about the delay of the Vinicius. Finally he appeared biking slowlly and smiling. I was happy for knowing that it was all good.
- We need continue the trip, it is three o’clock of the afternoon, lacks more than 30 km to arrive in Gramado.

We took a land road, always under weak rain. From there I concluded that I could not stay too much far away from Vinicius. The land road had little signalling and was almost end of afternoon. We went biking in very slow speed until Boa Vista do Herval district

For less inclined than it was the ascent, Vinicius went down of the bicycle. He told he had pain in his legs. In the end of each ascent, and in all the crossroads I stopped to wait my partner. In Boa Vista do Herval district I spoke with a staff who was speaking in German language in the table of a drinkbar.
- Why do you speak in german language?
- We like it!
- And do you write in german language?
- We only speak!

A very likeable people. The people of the region is very hospitable and for what he seems, he adores parties. Diligent people, but that also have fun. In the local radio they touched German musics, and the announcements were more or less like this: “Today, great ball of the sausage in the Schmith hall”

We were very slowlly and eating bars of cereals, candy and chocolate half bitter taste, even close to Serra Grande district, when I noticed that the Vinicius was pushing the bicycle even in the plan. In the truth he had stopped cycling. I was turning worried:
- Who knows we take a hitchhiking with some light truck.
- No way! I go until the end!
- We are going to arrive there in the night!
- I do not import myself!

The determination of the Vinicius to arrive in Gramado city without aid was an admiring thing.

We leave the mudded road and we took a parallelopiped stone covered road, and later asphalt. My partner came back biking in the plan. The speed and the hope to arrive in Gramado at sunlight increased.

Suddenly it seemed that we had arrived in the suburb of Gramado city! It was almost night, and was raining. We saw in the way a pretty and old chapel called São Luis, we stopped there and took some photos even thought under rain. We saw up there the RS 115 road that comes from Tres Coroas city. We find that we were entering in Gramado yet.
I thought: -At last we arrived! It will be true?
I asked to an inhabitant:
- Which is the closer way for the center?
- Go always straight, it distances so so two kilometers.

We went striaght, asphalt finished. It started a small road climbing a hill, type ascent of the Ferrabras mount, many rocks and holes, it was very inclinated. That road followed almost parallel to RS 115 railroad. I believed that Chapel of São Luis was in a quarter of Gramado that is seen of the Porch of the RS115 railroad.
I climbed that ascent in the dark , under rain, wind, and an increasing cold.

Arriving in RS 115 railroad I took shelter in a bus stop and was waiting the Vinicius.
I noticed that there were bubbles next to the ventil of the tire of my bicycle. The tire was pierced, withering! I pumped it, and nothing to get full. I didn´t know why, but my new pump GTS had ruined in the trip.
Then I left from there, in the biggest speed that I could, heading the Gramado city, right-hander to the first gas station and the first calipers.
I cycled and cycled, and I seemed that I never arrived.
Night, ascent, rain, cold, wind, tire almost beating in the hoop, and without pump.

There were a Ipiranga gas station so so 2 kilometers from there. Arriving there gave to one shower in myself and in my bicycle, fixed the tire, and placed dry clothes.
I received a telephone call in my mobile from Vinicius:
- And now? I go up or go down?
- Where are you?
- I don´t know! I left the land road little time ago.
- Then you go up! You are almost arriving! I am in the Ipiranga gas station.
- It goes up? Ohch! I went down so so three hundred meters yet!

One hour later Vinicius arrived, walking almost in the tip of the feet. He laid down in so me wet tiles, and the gas station man commented:
-To be laid down in that frozen tile he must be bad.

The Vinicius was bad, trembled a lot. I caught a cup of capuccino coffee, plus a package of biscuit from the store in the gas station. While he was eating and drinking everything I asked for the men from gas station where were the nearest hotel.
-It is in the other side of the street.
I went there, in the Encantos de Gramado Inn and set the prices. I brought Vinicius and the bicycles to the inn, I placed everything inside the room. After a good hot bath, air-conditional turned on, four blankets and a hot tea, he felt better.
My partner was brave! Its stubbornness was fantastic. Without complaining, and aid it really arrived the Gramado city. He must have walked pushing the bicycle at least the half of the 83 kilometers “cycled”.

We asked for “cheeses”, that a motorcycle-boy brought us them with promptness. It can… for the price…
Some hours later had passed the rain. I weared some sport dry clothes and I took the bicycle.
- Where are you going?
- In the Party of the Colony!
- Are you crazy?!

I went to the party of the colony biking, with sport clothes and slippers. There i drank an excellent juice of grape, I attended one band to touch typical music from germans settlers. What more they had to sell there for there they were sweet breads

Sunday I awoke early in the morning, I took coffee, and I went in Canela city to buy a pump of bicycle tire. I found a store of bicycles, the “Bikes Colleague”, almost to the side of the Unidão supermarket. I beated palms, I found that I had awoke the owner of the store, that was an old gentleman, very likeable. The store was very old and had as much part of bicycle there inside that it was difficult to enter inside it.

The morning was pleasant, had sun and was a little cold. Very good to cycling. I came back to the inn, I started to arrange my things in the bicycle.
- Where are you going?
- To come back toward Porto Alegre!
- Are you crazy?!

Vinicius intended to come back by bus in the end of the afternoon
I said goodbye to him and went by streets biking slowlly, observing the colors of Gramado, as is written in it´s porch: “Lead in your eyes the collorfull images of Gramado.

In RS 235 road, between Gramado and the toll I beat my record of maximum speed. I reached 74 km/h.
The pedal until Nova Petropolis city was a stroll. The climate, the sun, the landscape, the scarce transit, all perfect one.
In Nova Petropolis there were a multitude of people dressed up as rabbit. I spoke with one of the rabbit, it gave me a pamphlet, and said for me to come back I don´t know when there, would have one such of party of the chocolat.

I went down until Picada Cafe city. I stopped in the chapel of São Cristóvão and I entered in the Historical Park Municipal Jorge Kuhn.
I left BR 116 and I caught a road that passes for President Lucena city and goes till Ivoti city.
Who finds that the descending of the mountain range of RS state does not have ascent, try to return for President Lucena city.

To make short the story, the back exchange of the bike ruined and I had to push the bicycle in some occasions.
I was without lunch. In President Lucena I took only water. In Ivoti I visited the São Pedro Church, an old and green church, it seemed to be covered with moss.
In the Kika ice cream parlor I ate four giant ice cream balls. The ice cream was so flavorful that it confirmed the saying that had in the door of the ice cream parlor: “it is impossible to take only one” and it was really.
From Ivoti I went direct to São Leopoldo city where I took the TRENSURB until the road station of Porto Alegre.
When it was five of the afternoon I was in the sofa of my home, listening Rick Wakeman - “No Earthly Connection”, with the eyes full of mountain range images, the expanded conscience again.
Landscapes, roads, mountains, people, situations, a lot of thing in two simple days. I had gone in Gramado by car many times, but to travel of bicycle is different. People absorb more. Gramado city changed. In some way, my vision of Gramado city changed.
